Our Story

In 2017, my family and I were relocated to the Coast Guard station in Dollar Bay, MI, just a short distance from Houghton/Hancock, MI. Approaching 20 years of dedicated service, I found myself at a crossroads – either continue in the Coast Guard and face another transfer in 2020 or retire and make a permanent home in the Keweenaw. With both my daughters entrenched in high school and forming new connections, and my wife content with our current location, the decision became clear.

After retiring from the Coast Guard, I assumed the role of a research vessel captain at Michigan Technological University's Great Lakes Research Center. Despite my appreciation for the job and the camaraderie, there was a void. During my time in the Coast Guard, I often pondered the idea of operating my own boat tour. While patrolling the local waters of the Keweenaw, it became evident that there was no accessible means for the general public or visitors without boats to revel in the splendor of the Keweenaw Waterway and Lake Superior. Encouraged by advice from various community members and friends, I took the plunge into creating a boat tour that provides just that.

Whether you're a longtime local or a first-time visitor, join us on one of our tours for a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
